Vigil for Minneapolis Victims

Today's group meditation session will be postponed until next Sunday. I would like to explain why.

The Amador Meditation Community welcomes all people with an interest in meditation regardless of religion, philosophical, political or ideological persuasion. We are happy to enjoy fellowship with our neighbors and community in a "politics-free" environment.

However, when the federal government begins executing people in the streets of our cities, I feel it is important to stand in solidarity with our fellow Americans. I see this as a non-partisan issue that impacts all of us, regardless of political affiliation, and it cannot stand.

My Shifu, Chan Master Sheng Yen, was never shy about taking a stance in favor of human rights and the environment. He taught his students to never ignore issues of importance, but to face them head on and deal with them directly. Chan (Zen) is not about spiritual bypassing. Quite the opposite.

It is simply not acceptable for the federal government to trample on our Constitutional rights and democratic freedoms in my personal opinion. If you don't agree, I suggest that you consider where this has led historically and face it with sober reflection. If you still don't agree, that is your right as a citizen of this country. You are still welcome to join us for group meditation in the future in a safe, politics-free zone.

If you agree, you are welcome to join us for a vigil for the Minneapolis victims at Creekside United Methodist Church in Sutter Creek Sunday evening, tonight, Jan 25, at 5 pm.
